For the Common Good

For the Common Good

This past week we have been discussing spiritual or manifestational gifts from 1 Corinthians 12:1-11.
Gifts are by their very nature are given for a reason and have a purpose.

Paul states the purpose for these gifts for us so we don’t need to guess. He says in verse seven of 1 Corinthians 12:
To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

This means that although we may receive them individually they are not for us alone, not to boast, not to be proud of, but for the benefit of others, for the common good. The work of the Spirit in us and the use of the gifts is for the common good and must come from Love.

Anything else is pointless.

That might sound a bit harsh, but if we are not working in Love we are wasting our time.

Our gifts may be the manifestational gifts from 1 Corinthians 12 or other gifts mentioned in Romans 12 or Ephesians 4 or others not listed in these verses, regardless we must use our gifts for the common good.
